CaringBridge - Be There ~ Helping friends and family stay in touch and informed: "Day +8
Good afternoon, Zayla is resting peacefully…she is receiving red blood (or as our friend Abigail says, “red juice”) right now, and she got platelets today as well. She has to be pre-medicated with Benadryl because of the last time she received platelets she got hives, that is why she is sleeping peacefully (plus the morphine too). This is her first bag of blood since transplant…Shelby’s blood has sustained her for a whole week, must be good stuff!! Yesterday afternoon we hooked Zay up to continuous morphine (PCA), and it has seemed to manage her pain quite nicely. They have her on a low dosage, so she is able to be awake from time to time (except now cuz of the Benadryl). For the past two days her temperature has been increasing slightly…not a fever yet, but we are keeping an eye on it (right now she was 99.3). They said that she would probably run a fever, they are just surprised she hasn’t yet…somewhere around day +4 to +9 is when it starts and we are already at day 8!! Like Kelly says, “all the good days mean less bad”! They do daily labs on her, and there is one test that they have been doing that showed slightly elevated yesterday, and a little more again today…it is called C-R"
Keep this little girl and her family in your prayers.
